What Is Menopause?
Menopause is a natural stage in a woman's life that marks the end of menstrual cycles and reproductive years. It is diagnosed after 12 consecutive months without a menstrual period (this is also called the final menstrual period), in the absence of other medical causes.
Menopause is not a disease, but a normal biological transition that can be associated with a wide range of physical, emotional, and psychological changes.

Perimenopause is the transitional period from the time of menopausal symptoms (see below) to 12 months after the last menstrual period. Periods can still be regular, with symptoms being worst in the days to week leading up to the period. This phase can last on average 4 to 8 years and for some women, the symptoms experienced during the perimenopause can be the most distressing.
